We sat down with Jan at her home to chat about her brand-new air source heat pump installation, how a recommendation from across the Atlantic sparked her journey, and why her experience with the Improveasy team was “thoroughly positive” from start to finish.
Making the Leap to Green Energy
For Jan, the decision to switch to an air source heat pump was driven by two key goals: doing her part for the planet and adding value to her home.
“I was trying to be ecologically correct,” Jan explains.
“I can’t afford to buy an electric car, so it was my one contribution to climate change. It also adds value to my house. My goddaughter will inherit it, so it’s better value for her. It ticks the boxes all round, really.”
While Jan had a clear vision for a greener home, making it a financial reality required a bit of help. That’s where the government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) came into play.
“I saw the advert for Improveasy, and the fact the government are giving you £7,500 does not go amiss. I wouldn’t have been able to afford it without that. It all became very feasible.”
Proven Performance (Even in Canada!)
While heat pumps are still a relatively new concept for many homeowners in the UK, Jan already knew how effective they could be thanks to some long-distance reassurance.
“My friends in Canada have them, and they were very impressed with heat pumps,” she says.
“They live on the West Coast, so it’s not six foot of snow, but they were both very impressed. One of my friends had an aging husband who was fairly frail at that point, and she said it was brilliant because it was a kind of equal heat all the time.”
With zero hesitation and a stamp of approval from the West Coast, Jan knew she was making the right choice.
“Once I decided I was going to do it, I was doing it!”
Impressed From the Very First Contact
When it came to choosing an installer, Jan reached out to Improveasy and was instantly reassured by the professionalism of the team.
"I just contacted Improveasy... and I was just impressed right off the bat. Then two guys came to do the surveys, and I was even more impressed. One of them circumnavigated the house and decided where the heat pump would go, and then [the technical surveyor] came by the following day to see where the tank would go. It fit in a cupboard, which was the perfect place for it to be. Accessible, but in a cupboard. Tick that box!"
A Hardworking Team That Goes Above and Beyond
When installation week arrived, the Improveasy engineers made quite the impression – not just with their technical expertise, but with their incredible work ethic.
“The guys arrived at 8:00 on the day they said, and they’ve been here at 8:00 every day,” says Jan. “They stayed until 6:30 and 7:00. I couldn’t fault them on any level.”
Jan notes that while installing a whole new eco-friendly heating system is naturally a bit more disruptive than a simple boiler swap, the team did everything they could to look after her home.
“It’s such a new system… they vacuumed from top to bottom! Aren’t they good? Amazing, amazing… even went outside and swept the path.
It was beyond the call, as far as I was concerned.”
Looking Forward to a Cosy, Trouble-Free Winter
With all-new radiators installed throughout her home, Jan is delighted with the result and is looking forward to experiencing an improved kind of warmth this winter.
“I’m delighted. I’m looking forward to the winter so I can finally test it out. I’m a big believer in ‘put a pullover on’, I don’t want it to be 25°, I want it to be a constant 19 to 20°,” Jan says.
“I was also assured that I would have constant hot water, because that’s a biggie for me. And apparently, I can dry clothes on the radiators!”
